VA - Winter Particles 2014 (2014) FLAC
Through 29 pieces of music across 2013, the seasonal Particles series brought a collection of established and newcomer artists to the label with a series of tracks that have often gone on to receive full releases in their own right. Now, 2014 promises to herald a new breed of up and coming producers alongside established colleagues as the ten-track "Winter Particles 2014" takes up the reins of a supremely successful series. "Winter Particles" opens with the soft melodic melancholy of Dutch artist, Mozaiek.

Making his debut, subtle percussive rhythms and strong beat pave the way for light arpeggiated motifs and pads to drift their way through six-and-a-half minutes of bliss. Having already cultivated a presence on imprints such as Balkan Connection and Stellar Fountain, Belarusian, Michael A, contributes two tracks to the seasonal opener. "Reckless" follows the soft melodic underpinnings of Mozaiek before opening up into a confident dance floor offering with drive and energy coursing though its veins.
"Quadraped" is full of dark ominous tones, lifted by the presence of a driving beat, hypnotic percussion and crystalline, distorted melodic riffs that evolve into something truly magical by the final movement. Having founded partnerships with Reelaux Digital and 3rd Avenue, fellow Belarusian, Dmitry Molosh's "Teleport" provides a deep, dark bass groove, enveloped with rippling arpeggio and twinkling lead lines to create a richly textured offering that drives with a delightful verve and vibrancy. A regular on Particles throughout 2013, "My Space Friend" is full of trademark sounds that has made Progreg such a sought after producer. Filtered arpeggios dominate across a bed of 4/4 beats as pulsating pads and emotive key changes create a work of melodic passion and energy.
Providing instant credibility on Luke Porter's Temporum label, Russian, Rise and Fall, makes his Particles debut with, "The Vision". A deep, bouncing bass groove nestles closely against a strong house rhythm as soft pads and melodic themes develop into an outstanding bass-fuelled motif in the third movement that captures imagination with its dynamism. Making a full production debut, American artist Anwalter has contributed two rhythmic offerings here. "And There You Were" tames pounding beats and bass with soft pulsing pads and light rapid fire hi-hats, while "Do It" provides a deep house moment with progressive credentials as a crisp filtered bass makes its mark surrounded by layered percussive groove and panned arpeggio.
Two further debutants make up the final tranche of music. After a breakthrough 2013, Serbian duo, Beat Maniacs, have created an impressive track that skips along with percussive rhythm, accompanied by a collection of stepped and filtered melodies that create a tight, coherent sound. With a clutch of trance works to his name, German artist, Arctic Sun, close with a changes pace and a superbly arranged piece that combines deep resonant pads with a clipped motif that evolves into a full-blown bouncing top-end groove in the latter stages. A winter spectacular served up by six debutants among the eight artists provides a bright start to the year through the ten-track, "Winter Particles 2014".
